338 Years of Sobriety
The Dunes East Hampton Staff, as of March 28th, 2011, had 338 Years of collective sobriety. Our Management and Clinical Staff members know from their own experience the fears, anxieties, and resistances that addicts face when confronted with having to go into a recovery facility.
The Dunes staff fully understands the rationalizations that keep addicts from getting well and healthy. And, they also know how those first days and weeks of withdrawal affect the addicted individual allowing staff to effectively support clients during the critical early days of recovery.
At The Dunes clients benefit from our Staff’s ability, from many years of having successfully coped with their addictions, to empathetically relate to clients. This ability to relate is the core of the staff to client relationship. A strong relationship between counselors and clients is an essential quality needed to facilitate and foster a rapport in which acceptance, trust, and honesty can be achieved between clients and their clinicians, counselors, and advocates.
The Power of Example Brings Hope Alive
We have found clients recognize in the examples of sobriety our staff members embody, the urgings and finding of “Hope,” for themselves. With “Hope” the start of replacing the desperation, fears, and denial that are so pervasive with addicts entering a recovery experience takes place. With “Hope” comes client open-mindedness and willingness to find the solutions to problems ; The Dunes staff can then help clients quickly start on their individual paths to recovery, and toward full and satisfying addiction-free lives.
Staff members know, from their own personal experiences in recovery, the thoughts and triggers that set up the temptation to relapse, giving our staffers the ability to relate their own success as they deal with these same phenomena with clients of The Dunes. The “Power of Example” set by staffers at The Dunes is the key that opens the door to our clients being able to benefit from the unique clinical protocols that Dr. Howard J. Shaffer has created for The Dunes East Hampton.
