The Lindsay Lohan saga has long been fodder for media outlets the world over. From courtroom appearances to rehab stints, the actress has garnered more attention for troubling behavior than acting in recent years. Though many have tried to reach the actress, few have been able to make a long-lasting impact – as experienced by her father, Michael Lohan.
According to reports, Mr. Lohan sought to persuade his daughter into drug addiction treatment via intervention in 2012. The attempt apparently backfired, with Ms. Lohan contacting local authorities.
Why the Lindsay Lohan Intervention Failed
The episode emphasized the importance in proper intervention planning – and why they fail or succeed. Mr. Lohan reportedly put a great deal of thought into planning the Lindsay Lohan intervention, however, the result shows just how difficult and temperamental the experience can be. Some interventions are successful even with those who are apathetic to the situation at hand, but family support and professional help are typically imperative – which may be why Lindsay resisted.

“The notion that a person has to be entirely willing to stop addictive behaviors for the treatment process to ‘stick’ is a widespread notion in the recovery community,” Dr. Nicholas Kardaras told The Christian Science Monitor.
“But I’ve seen firsthand that that’s not always necessarily true,” he continued. “I have seen successfully recovered clients who had been kicking and screaming – literally – in their resistance to the recovery process. And yet even in some of those extreme cases, the intervention worked as the client was able to gain some much needed, abstinence-induced clarity – which then led to the willingness to meaningfully engage in the recovery process.”
There is no magic cure. An intervention makes no promise of success or substance abuse treatment. However, with the proper preparation and follow-through, interventions can be quite successful.
