CEO And Founder Of The Dunes East Hamptons: Joe McKinsey
He’s a national supplier for the hospitality industry, offering computer peripherals to other companies. He’s a very successful businessman, yes, but there’s so much more to Joe than that.
Mr. McKinsey built The Dunes East Hampton because he understands what it’s like to struggle with addiction. Nearly 36 years ago, this entrepreneur was trapped in alcoholism. It took great determination and extended treatment, but Joe was able to regain control of his life and craft a multi-million dollar company.
This unique background is what pushed him to create the safe haven for recovery that is The Dunes East Hampton. Joe has experienced the difficulties of addiction, and he wants to help ensure everyone gets the second chance they deserve.
The Dunes East Hamptons Made Headlines In The Long Island Pulse
Recognition is the sign of a job well done, and Mr. McKinsey has recently seen some attention from the Long Island Pulse (LIP). During the interview, he had a chance to share some of his compelling personal experiences and offer insight to the rest of the world about what it’s like to live with alcoholism (and how the right treatment methods can fix it).
He said:
“I’m not very anonymous about my recovery, if you’re with me for more than 10 minutes, you’ll find out.”
Although some people may find it painful to share their shortcomings, Joe knows that his story can inspire success in other people.
Mr. McKinsey spoke extensively with the LIP staff about his past and where his previous choices landed him. He lost jobs, missed opportunities, and let his family (including his wife and 5-year-old daughter) almost disappear forever. One of the reasons The Dunes East Hampton is so successful and realistic is because it’s being led by someone who’s been through the same challenges its patients are facing.
Building The Recovery Center Of A Lifetime
Joe also discussed the process of brainstorming and founding The Dunes East Hampton during his interview with the Long Island Pulse. He talked about finding his calling to help others, using his experiences and go-getter attitude to build solutions. Joe would reach out to people in similar situations and assist them to find treatment options so they could reconstruct their lives.
Mr. McKinsey gave the LIP a rundown of the process of creating The Dunes East Hampton. During his time helping other addicts, he noticed that some of the more financially stable people wanted a more comfortable, comprehensive, and luxurious place to recover. He spent years refining the dream, all while continuing to assist other addicts and simultaneously building his computer business. By 2010, he opened The Dunes East Hampton and reached out to individuals in need.
Beyond The Wealthy
Joe’s story didn’t stop there, he knew that not everyone would be able to afford the type of environment The Dunes East Hampton had to offer, and he wanted to change that. Mr. McKinsey created treatment scholarships and other options, which help those in less favorable financial situations to receive world-class treatment.
