The Dunes East Hampton Rehab

What Is Holistic Healing?

Since addiction is a disease which affects the entire person – mind, body and soul – it makes sense to offer help that will address it on the same basis. We here at The Dunes East Hampton have developed a holistic treatment program that offers our clients a different approach than the traditional one of going through detox, seeing a counselor and working a 12-step program.

While this method can and does work for a number of people who are looking to break free from an addiction to alcohol or drugs, it’s not the only or always the most effective treatment approach. No two clients are the same, and getting help for a substance abuse problem is not a “one size fits all” situation.

Our holistic treatment options recognize that there are no aspects of a client’s life that has not been affected by addiction. We seek to address the disease on completely on multiple levels.

Types Of Holistic Healing Programs And How They Help Recovering Addicts

Meditation

Meditation can be a very helpful practice for clients who are recovering addicts. It teaches them to sit quietly and reflect.

Many people in this situation have been so busy running from how they feel that it’s been a very long time since they have been able to relax long enough to focus on where they are in the present moment. Their alcohol and drug use has been a way to numb them from being fully present in their lives and emotions.

To be able to simply sit quietly and focus in the simple action of breathing can be quite an accomplishment. Getting in the habit of meditation can help relieve stress and center emotions.

Yoga

Yoga is not only good exercise, since it helps our clients stretch and tone their muscles in a gentle manner, but it allows them to relax. The deep breathing that accompanies the poses puts our clients into a calm, focused state which allows them to deal with stress.

As they learn more about yoga, they find out that even a brief session has real stress-busting benefits when they feel they may be vulnerable to a relapse. Yoga also aids in the quality of sleep!

Spiritual-Based Counseling

Some of our clients want to have counseling sessions with a spiritual basis, since that is an important part of their recovery. We can offer spiritual counseling to any of our clients who wish to receive it. Focusing on spirituality in addiction recovery strengthens hope and faith for recovering addicts, which strengthens their willpower against the addiction itself as well as helping to prevent relapse.
