Why Taking Action Toward Positive Changes Is So Important In Early Recovery

If someone decides that they want to make positive changes to improve their life in some way, they need to take action to make it a reality. Simply thinking about what they want or deciding how much better life will be once the change occurs is not enough to bring it to fruition.

Positive Changes And Action In Early Recovery

Clients who seek treatment for drug and alcohol addiction have already taken a positive first step. In admitting they have a problem and seeking treatment, they are doing something that is going to put them on the path to healing and sobriety. For many people, simply admitting that there is a problem that they cannot resolve on their own and that they need help takes real courage.

Once the treatment process starts, it’s important for clients to continue to take daily positive actions that will aid in their recovery.

Staying busy and building skills by participating in activities during recovery builds a client’s self-confidence and boosts his or her self-esteem. It’s not uncommon for addicts to have low self-esteem due to their damaged relationships with friends and family members, as well as the negative consequences they have experienced while they were actively drinking or using drugs.

When they first become sober, they may feel overwhelmed by the number of changes they need to make to get their lives back on track. If they do something positive on a daily basis, stay squarely focused on putting one foot in front of the other and have faith that these steps will pay off, then long-term positivity and sobriety is more than just a possibility…it’s a reality!
