5 Things To Inspire You In Recovery

The journey of recovery from addiction is never a straight line. It zigs and zags, and you can expect that there will be times that will be challenging to you, as well as times where you are feeling that you have this addiction thing pretty much under control. It’s important to realize that neither phase is static, and you will continue to grow and change over time. Maintaining inspiration in recovery is just as important as any other step during your journey.

As you walk your path, it’s important to take note of things that inspire you, both to build you up when you are discouraged and to help keep you grounded when you are getting a bit too sure of yourself. Sobriety is not something that you can manage on your own; and as soon as you start thinking that you can and that you are bigger or stronger than your addiction, you start running the risk of setting yourself up for a slip or a relapse. There are many addiction resources available to support you along your journey.

Here are 5 simple things to inspire you during your journey of recovery.

Inspiration In Recovery

1. Sunrise

You don’t have to go far to find inspiration in recovery. You may have been up to greet the sun unofficially during times when you were actively using drugs or drinking, but make a point to get up early enough to watch the sun rise in the morning. Grab a cup of coffee or tea and appreciate how it signals a new day and a fresh start, not just for you and your recovery, but for every living thing on Earth.

Being inspired by the sunrise helps you feel part of something bigger and greater.

2. Support Of Other People In Recovery

Attending a 12-step or ongoing group therapy program once you complete your initial course of treatment for drug and/or alcohol addiction is an important part of your recovery. Having a sponsor in a 12-step program can provide inspiration in recovery you when you need support, and everyone in a group therapy program shares and leans on each other in the same manner. Support groups will also help hold you accountable for your actions, which can be vital in preventing relapse.

3. Reading About Other People’s Stories

If you ever feel as though no one else could possibly understand what getting and staying sober is like, you’re wrong. Other people have shared their experiences online and in print, and you can get inspired by reading about their experiences. It will let you know that you are not alone and that although the journey isn’t easy, life-long sobriety IS possible…and worth it.

4. Checking Out Meaningful Quotes

To get a quick boost when you need it, regularly read some quotes to inspire addiction recovery. These inspirational messages will get your mind focused in a more positive direction and give you food for thought.

5. Keeping A Journal

It’s easy to forget how far you have come in your own recovery. Journaling is a way to look back at your own journey and see the subtle changes that have taken place over time and be strengthened in your resolve to continue on.
