The Dunes’ pharmacotherapy and medical treatment program strives to guide and support clients on the road to recovery. Studies suggest that in order to achieve a successful outcome, substance abuse recovery must be approached in a comprehensive manner.
Those with addiction issues often require a number of treatment options including psychotherapy, support groups, family therapy, nutrition counseling and alternative therapies in order to gain the full benefit of treatment.
Pharmacotherapy utilizes well-researched and effective medications in an effort to boost participation throughout the recovery process. It can also provide hope to clients who have relapsed and continue to struggle with ongoing substance abuse.
Some of the benefits associated with our Pharmacotherapy Program include:
- Decrease in cravings
- Decrease in physical symptoms of drug withdrawal
- Block the subduing or euphoric effects of drugs
- Block the effects of drugs on the brain
We create a customized treatment plan for each client. If pharmacotherapy is deemed beneficial for the particular client, our clinical team is able to provide the medications needed to support the recovery journey.
Pharmacotherapy And Opioid Addiction
Naltrexone
Naltrexone is typically used for the management of opioid addiction or alcohol dependence. The medication has been proven to reduce the risk of relapse by reducing cravings and withdrawal symptoms.
Methadone
A synthetic opioid, Methadone is used as anti-addiction medication for our clients struggling with an opioid dependency such as morphine, oxycodone, heroin and many others. Methadone works to stabilize withdrawal symptoms during detoxification while helping clients manage their cravings moving forward.
Suboxone
Suboxone is a semi-synthetic opioid used to address opioid addiction. The medication is a combination of naloxone and buprenorphine. At The Dunes East Hampton, Suboxone may be used to help clients through the detoxification process by reducing withdrawal symptoms and cravings. When combined with therapy, Suboxone has proven quite effective in treating opioid dependence.
Co-Occurring Disorders
Our caring and professional counselors are able to properly diagnose and address substance addiction co-occurring with psychological disorders including anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, ADD, bipolar disorder, and others.
At The Dunes East Hampton, we are equipped to treat these psychological disorders alongside addiction recovery treatment. This dual approach is necessary for many clients prone to self-medication due to underlying and/or undiagnosed disorders. By addressing these issues simultaneously, our clients become equipped to handle and understand each disorder properly.
